Manuel Lujan Agencies named one of 'New Mexico's Healthiest Employers'
MLA was named a winner in New Mexico Business Weekly’s Healthiest Employers program on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the Embassy Suites Hotel. Fifteen New Mexico organizations were recognized at the event for their commitment to their employees’ health and wellness. There were three award levels, small, medium and large companies, based on employees; MLA won in the small company category (under 100 employees).
This award is an outstanding recognition of MLA’s commitment to investing in the health and well-being of our employees. The agency implemented Nuvita, an evidence-based next-generation wellness program in 2008. Nuvita combines leading edge technology, health education and team motivation in an interactive program. Together, employees and a coach develop a custom exercise plan, review nutrition counseling and are outfitted with a cardio monitor that records and automatically uploads employee’s workouts. A comprehensive assessment was conducted, on site, before and after the program.
The agency begins the third phase of Nuvita this spring. In the previous 12 week program, employees lost over 300 pounds collectively, and logged 107,579 cardio minutes, which is equivalent to running 448 marathons! 48% lowered their blood pressure, 39% improved cardiovascular fitness, 30% reduced the risk of diabetes and 24% reduced their risk of heart disease and stroke! In addition to these amazing results, the agency’s insurance premiums have dropped, as opposed to the trend of rising.
